Endoscopy

Endoscopy

We strive to offer our patients the highest level of medicine, and we are glad to be able to offer endoscopy as one of our diagnostic procedures.

Tryon Equine Mobile offers endoscopic examination of the upper airway throat, larynx, trachea, esophagus, stomach, and upper intestine. This small fiberoptic camera at the end of the narrow tube provides a high-resolution digital image for state-of-the-art diagnosis of conditions such as laryngeal paralysis and gastric ulcers. The endoscope can be used to take biopsy samples of tissue as well for histopathology and advanced diagnostics. This is a minimally invasive tool that provides a high level of medicine to our equine patients.

Gastric ulcers are a major issue causing decreased or poor performance in our equine patients. They can also be difficult to treat and fully resolve depending on the location where they are in the stomach, glandular or non-glandular lining. The gastroscope evaluation is the gold standard diagnostic to determine accurate treatment and heal this major issue. Please call and schedule one of our doctors and their veterinary assistant today for a gastroscope to get your performance horses up and running their best!

An endoscope can be rigid or very flexible, depending on what procedure it is used for. It can also be sterilized so that it can safely be inserted into the body. Endoscopic equipment can have many uses in veterinary medicine. For example, with a patient understanding sedation/anesthesia, an endoscope can be inserted into the nostril to examine the upper & lower airways, esophagus, trachea, stomach, and upper intestine. In a referral setting, an endoscope can be inserted through a small incision into a body cavity to permit us to examine the surface of organs, such as the liver or kidneys, or to look inside a joint, such as the knee.

Endoscopy provides us with a full-color, magnified view of the area of interest. Additionally, endoscopic procedures are usually non-invasive or minimally invasive. We strive to offer our patients the highest level of medicine, and we are glad to be able to offer endoscopy as one of our diagnostic procedures.
